Einweihung des Roma-Mahnmals in Stolberg
Eine Gedenkveranstaltung der Gruppe Z – Stolberg und des VVN-BdA Aachen, am Donnerstag den 02.08 um 18:30Uhr am Stolberger Hbf. Wir werden gemeinsam aus Aachen anreisen und treffen uns hierfür um 18:00Uhr vor dem AZ Aachen.
37 Stolberger Roma wurden am 2. März 1943 vom Hauptbahnhof Stolberg aus nach Auschwitz deportiert und bis 1944 alle ermordet.
Die letzten noch im Lager Auschwitz-Birkenau lebenden ca. 3000 Roma und Sinti wurden in der Nacht vom 2. auf den 3. August 1944 ermordet. Sie hatten mit einem Aufstand versucht die Liquidierung des sogenannten „Zigeunerlagers“ zu verhindern. Es ist möglich, dass auch einige Stolberger Roma dabei waren.
Wir nehmen dieses von Roma und Sinti bis heute erinnerte Ereignis, der Tag wird zum Gedenken an den Völkermord an den Roma und Sinti (Porajmos) begangen, zum Anlass, die Anlage einzuweihen und der ermordeten Menschen zu gedenken. Im Jahre 1995 errichteten wir für die ermordeten Roma ein Mahnmal in Form eines Wagenrades aus Holz, auf einer Bahnschwelle stehend, vor dem Stolberger Hauptbahnhof. Da der Zahn der Zeit an dem Wagenrad nagte, sahen wir es für notwendig an das Wagenrad durch ein Mahnmal aus haltbarerem Material zu ersetzen. Am 17. März 2013 weihten wir eine Stele aus belgischem Granit, geschaffen durch den Stolberger Bildhauer André Hennecken, ein.
Jetzt ist eine schöne Anlage rund um das Mahnmal entstanden, geplant von Gruppe Z – Stolberg und der Vereinigung der Verfolgten des Naziregimes-Bund der Antifaschist*innen (VVN-BdA) Aachen, ausgeführt vom Bildhauer selbst sowie mit Unterstützung der Stadtverwaltung Stolberg.
Wir freuen uns, dass sich die ganze Anlage gut einfügt in die gesamte Umgestaltung des Platzes vor dem Hauptbahnhof, der benannt ist nach dem jüngsten der ermordeten Stolberger Roma Gustav-Wassilkowitsch-Platz.
